Instead of giving away money to companies and banks, lets have a COUPON event!
Washington mails out coupons to every household. Coupons for discounts on appliances, clothing, furniture, cars, and food.
For example, you will get a coupon for $2000 off on any new car that you buy or a coupon for $150 off any new appliance you buy or $500 off on food for over a year's span.
As you probably already know, the Treasury department is planning on paying off the debt of several private companies such as AIG, Fannie May and Freddie Mac to ward off a financial catastrophe.
I will be the first to say I have very little understanding of this financial crisis, except to say from listeing to all sides of the issue, I think we're all going to be paying for this lack of oversight for years to come if it's not done correctly.
My main purpose in even bringing the subject up is to find out what you folks are thinking about it all.
I sure wish I was a movie director. I'd be making one heck of an ad reminding folks of the Bush years; to heck with McCain and Palin. Americans need to be reminded of what we've gone through for the past 8 years. Yes, I said `reminded'.
We all know that Americans, or should I say human beings, have a short memory. Isn't that what President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Karl Rove have banked on for the past several years. They've `changed' the story line so many times it's hard to keep up.
I would begin by editing the "Special Comment" given by Keith Olbermann Countdown (MSNBC), picking off parts showing how the Bush administration used carefully timed `terror alerts' to distract the media from `other news' of the day. News that would make the administration `look' bad. The alerts are all perfectly timed to `change' what the media is reporting.
Here we go again talking about Hillary Clinton and how Barack Obama would have been better off picking her then picking Joe Biden.
Hillary doesn't even have to say anything, yet the media will find a story about, guess what, her NOT saying anything.
Tonight's TPM story is about Hillary defending Obama by, guess what, NOT saying anything - directly to Palin.
This whole week had been devoted to making Barack Obama appear weak and off balance.
Maybe it's time for a new reality type show on network stations. Maybe there should be a Truth or Dare show again? You could use a new name but you get the idea from this one.
This show will be about politics and government.
If this isn't a sign of a huge foreign policy blunder I don't know what is. Read parts of the following article about Pakistan.
Democrats have said for a few years now that it's time to use covert actions to get the enemy, that the military can't be used for every fight. And for saying those things, they've been ridiculed and called weak in defense.
Now we see President Bush, Dick Cheney, John McCain and the Republicans also believe covert actions (police actions) can work and should be used. And now they agree that we've had an over reliance of military action.
Senator Barack Obama, you need to show people where you stand on issues such as health care, labor law reforms and other policies affecting working people. You need to visit unemployment offices, union halls and soup lines.
Senator, do you or your family ever remember being so broke that you ate macaroni and cheese with water because you couldn't afford to buy milk? Do you remember those beans and cornbread or hotdog and bean (if you could afford it) nights? Have you ever experienced milk toast or eating leftovers for days on end? Did you ever go to bed hungry sir?
A story was reported this week with very little fanfare from the media. President Bush is planning on following recommendations to withdraw around 8000 troops from Iraq by January of 2009. He would also send a small group of Marines to Afghanistan in November; No, not to add troops but to replace the ones leaving.
Folks, military commanders in Afghanistan are asking for `more' troops, not less, not the same -- more. President Bush and John McCain are failing their jobs. Bush and McCain have both promised to provide everything to the generals on the ground that they ask for - they've failed in that mission.
President BUSH said he will give the Generals ANYTHING they want - he's lying once again. John McCain being 100% behind President Bush is therefore ALSO to lying. With his current power over the Party, having a press conference demanding that Bush do something would do wonders - but he won't.
What isn't noticed as much during this news report are the words, "at least one Marine battalion will leave (Iraq) and not be replaced, as well as a few thousand support forces". Don't you wonder how many `thousands' that number is? I do.
Two weeks ago General Petraeus wanted to maintain current levels in Iraq - about 146,000, including 15 combat brigades and thousands of support forces through June.
There's no telling exactly how many troops we still have in Iraq because the news reports never match up. We're never told the truth. But if it's true that in January of 2007, before the `surge', we had 130,000 total troops there in Iraq, and if it's true that there's been an 80 percent drop in violence - why then do we continue to have, at the very least, 16,000 more troops there than what we had before the `surge'?
My point is, we are told 130,000 but they don't include the support troops and whatever terminology they use to describe the `extras'.
