Obama's Speech Tonight - Cool Stuff to Look For

Here is how the evening is projected to go:

1.  The media coverage opens with camera shots of the clouds above the city, and then moves through the clouds to float above the assembling masses below, with the intention of portraying beauty and majesty of the scene.

2.  Upon arriving at the field, Obama emerges from a full-scale replica of Air Force One, to thunderous applause and a cheering crowd, and is escorted backstage

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnew s/article-1050017/Obama-God-Democrats-bu ild-temple-Barack.html

3.  Upon taking his place among greek columns meant to evoke the Lincoln Memorial & the White House (and built by the same stage designers who do Britney Spears' shows), the speeches begin.

More points, and sources, below the fold ...

4.  First there is an introduction of the DNC hierarchy with opening speeches.

5.  Obama's speech starts by praising his campaign for their work in rebuilding America, and declares that the party and state are one entity.

6.  Obama then addresses the youth, describing how they must harden themselves and prepare for sacrifice.

7.  Obama, flanked by party leaders, walks through a long wide expanse to lay a wreath at an Iraq War Memorial.

8.  Obama then reviews parading members of the armed services  (Navy, Army, Marines, Air Force).

9.  New party symbols and emblems are introduced.

10.  Obama's speech ends by declaring, "All loyal Americans will become Democrats. Only the best Democrats will be party leaders"

11.  The scene fades to dark as the entire crowd sings the "I've got 99 Problems but a Bitch Ain't One" (reprised from his Iowa primary celebration).

12.  The evening ends with a torchlight parade or fireworks display.

of Leni Riefenstahl's work, Olympia is more impressive then Triumph of the will.

She was actually a fascinating story in contradictions and the concept of "the good german"...

She claimed after the war that Goebbels had forced her to produce the propaganda, but no one really can say.

Re: actually 11 made me chuckle a bit... (2.00 / 2)

Well, no, but the whole "99 problems" thing turned out to be a hoax.  Which is quite ugly when you think about it: to make up a story that Obama had a misogynist rap song at his victory celebration out of whole cloth.

You are warning us that Obama is going to give a kick-ass speech? Uh, thanks, but we already kinda figured.

Re: The Chinese judge gave this a 6.4 (2.00 / 1)

No, you don't understand! Obama needs to give a TERRIBLE speech. That way he looks like a stronger candidate. You know... like John McCain.

BUUUUUUUUUUUUULLSHIT. Hillary gives an amazing speech and it rallies the party, Obama gave a speech in 2004 that launched him to a Presidential run, but Obama needs to tone it down, because otherwise, he might win the election.

Yeah, it is strange.

The Republics move us ever closer the facist model, but, that is typically how your party works, isn't it?

Accuse the Democrats of what you in fact do?

Is the replica of Air Force One a joke?

I'm beginning to not be able to tell what is/is not snark anymore?

Here's the explanation (2.00 / 0)

http://thehill.com/campaign-2008/invesco -field-plays-unfamiliar-role-in-obama-sp eech-2008-08-28.html

Invesco's gates open at 1 p.m., and Obama's campaign is encouraging attendees to arrive several hours prior to the candidate's evening speech, leaving them to their own devices to keep their spirits high - and their minds and bodies entertained - for the better part of the afternoon.

Lucky for them, one of the few accessible diversions will be the American Presidential Experience, a traveling museum of documents, keepsakes, knickknacks, and replicas associated with America's first office that has set up in Invesco's parking lot this week.

Speech attendees who want to peruse the exhibit will see one of the original copies of the Declaration of Independence, a replica of the official Air Force One presidential plane, and a faux Oval Office constructed "down to within one inch of the same size" of the real one, said Jim Warlick, the traveling museum's owner and executive producer.

Political pack rats can bring their memorabilia collections to the exhibit, where experts will be on hand to assess their value, said Warlick, who also runs the Political Americana store in Washington, D.C., near the White House. Warlick is planning a post-speech party in the exhibit as well, and he's hoping to secure late-night talk show kings Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert as VIP guests.

Admission to the exhibit will be $25 for adults and $20 for children, and $100 for the post-speech party.

There are 2 replicas of Air Force One... one for the Dem Convention and one for the GOP one.

They do exist. McCain courted the Weekly Standard's ivy league elitist snark brigade to do his talking for him.

I chuckled, I did (none / 0)

But you think small.

"1.  The media coverage opens with camera shots of the clouds above the city, and then moves through the clouds to float above the assembling masses below, with the intention of portraying beauty and majesty of the scene."

Bzzt. Too iffy, and too reliant on nature. Fuck nature. Instead, we seed the clouds, producing roiling dark thunderheads and lightning. Coordinated flights of Blue Angels crisscross through the flashing bolts, trailing thin wires. On cue, a tiny EMP device is detonated, chanelling the cloud energy through the wire pattern.

Five billion volts flash the word "C H A N G E" in letters 2000 feet high.

"2.  Upon arriving at the field, Obama emerges from a full-scale replica of Air Force One, to thunderous applause and a cheering crowd, and is escorted backstage"

Wrong. All wrong. Only punks emerge from fake props. Instead, we set up giant Obama-shaped firework footprints (ala Beijing Opening) which thunder towards the stadium in 1/4 mile strides. As the ground shakes from their approach, Obama does a supersonic flyover in the NEW Air Force One, a modified SR-71 Blackbird, radar-invisible WITH a built in latte dispenser. The plane's control surfaces modulate the sonic boom to sound like "YES WE CAN" at 290 decibels.

Once all the car alarms quit, and the broken windows stop falling, Air Force "The One" makes a second pass, stops on a dime, and lands with it's Vertical Take Off and Landing capabilties. THEN Obama emerges.

After that, shit gets really dramatic.

Serious Question (none / 0)

I heard on POTUS 08 that they have been playing with the camera angles trying to get the right ones to get the look they want for Obama.

My question is who controls the cameras?  I guess the news orgs don't.

Re: Serious Question (2.00 / 1)

Cheney comes out dressed at Kurtz from Apocalypse now:

I've seen horrors... horrors that you've seen. But you have no right to call me a murderer. You have a right to kill me. You have a right to do that... but you have no right to judge me. It's impossible for words to describe what is necessary to those who do not know what horror means. Horror. Horror has a face... and you must make a friend of horror. Horror and moral terror are your friends. If they are not then they are enemies to be feared. They are truly enemies...You have to have men who are moral... and at the same time who are able to utilize their primordial instincts to kill without feeling... without passion... without judgment... without judgment. Because it's judgment that defeats us.

Re: Obama's Speech Tonight - Cool Stuff to Look Fo (2.00 / 0)

Before you go too far with this analogy, let's recall that it was a GOP insider who said McCain's campaign has such a bunker mentality that it lacks "only a Luger and a cyanide pill."  So I mean, don't all go growing those little mustaches just yet.
